Chocolate Satin Pie Dupe

It was my niece’s birthday this weekend, and we were heading to their house for a birthday BBQ. I asked my sister about the dessert they were having for the bday girl and she said they were getting a Marie Callendar’s Chocolate Silk Pie (one of our girlie’s old favorites!). Our girlie was immediately sad when I told her but I said that we could buy or make whatever gluten free dessert she wanted and bring it with us. We immediately searched for a gluten free recipe of the same pie and found something similar by Meaningful Eats. We used her recipes for Christmas cookies, so we know that we like her desserts!

As you can see, we ended up making it! Our 10 year old girlie had fun decorating it with big piles of chocolate all over the top! She thought it was really good, and she was a happy girl at the party. The adults did a side-by-side comparison. It was similar but the Marie Callendar version was MUCH sweeter. This recipe was a less sugary version with a brownie-like crust versus the chocolate pie crust. Next time, we may go for a chocolate pie crust for a little more crunch and to be closer to the Marie Callendar version. We just love that we can try to duplicate a lot of our girlie’s favorites with a gluten free option!
