We love to go on family vacations and will share our experiences with gluten free on vacations!
There were a handful of other gluten meals that we had while in Ko Olina, Hawaii that our girlie really liked. We went across the street from Aulani to the Mekiko Cantina. Our girlie ordered the Tacos Dorado with shredded chicken and LOVED them. They were made in hard corn shells with shredded chicken and cheese. She liked them so much that we came here for dinner 2 nights during our trip!
We started the day by trying a restaurant at the hotel next door, the Four Seasons Resort. Disney’s Aulani didn’t have gluten free pancakes, but La Hiki Kitchen at the Four Seasons did. Our girlie ordered the breakfast buffet and they made her separate chocolate chip gluten free pancakes and brought them out to her! She loved them! She was also able to eat a lot of fruit, cheese, cereal (they had Cheerios), yogurt with fruit, bacon and eggs. We highly recommend breakfast here!
On our 2nd day in Hawaii at Disney’s Aulani Resort was another amazing day of gluten free food! As soon as you tell the hostess and server about your allergy, they really know how to handle it well. We were impressed!
We had the most MAGICAL time at Disney’s Aulani Resort in Ko Olina, Hawaii! The views were amazing, the weather was gorgeous and there was a lot of gluten free food to be had!
We just got back from our amazing trip to Ko Olina, Hawaii at the Disney Aulani Resort! Our girlie did great eating gluten free and I’ll share what/where she ate over the next few days!
We started our trip flying with Delta Airlines. On our flight from LA to Honolulu, we were served a meal and we requested a gluten free option for our girlie.
On our vacation to Deep Creek Lake, MD, we explored the grocery stores to see what new gluten free goodies we could find. We went to both Walmart and Shop ‘n Save and came home with a handful of new treats to try, as well as some things we’ve tried before and really liked.
We just made it back from vacation and I wanted to share some of our gluten free wins!
We went to Deep Creek Lake, MD for a week where we rented a house on the lake. It was an amazing trip because it’s one of our favorite places! We hadn’t been there since our girlie was diagnosed with celiac, so I was worried about the gluten free food situation. We prepped by packing a lot of our girlie’s favorite snacks, meals & desserts. If we have our basics, we can always fill in with meat, cheese, fruits and veggies. Having these items worked out really well.
It was our last full day in New York City and we needed to fit in a lot! We wanted to fuel up to start our day, so we went to nearby Friedmans Restaurant for breakfast. As I’ve talked about before, our girlie loves chocolate chip pancakes, so we had to try these! They did not disappoint! She said they were the best gluten free pancakes that she’s ever had! They were big, fluffy, chocolatey with a pile of whipped cream - in a word, perfect. Friedmans is also known for their amazing gluten free menu and we felt really great about taking our girlie here. Her brother, who isn’t gluten free, said that his sandwich was the best breakfast sandwich he’s ever had!
Day 3 in New York City! This was an amazing gluten free food day and it all happened to be Italian food! We started with lunch at PizzArte because they had gluten free pizza crusts that people raved about. Our girlie tried the gluten free crust cheese pizza and she LOVED it! She said it was the best gluten free pizza crust that she’s ever had - and even went as far as saying that it may have been the best pizza she’s ever had!!
It was day 2 of our trip to New York City and I have to share one of our new FAVORITE gluten free dessert places, Posh Pop Bakeshop! This was the highlight of the day and honestly, one of the highlights of the trip. Our girlie loves sweets of all kinds, and this place had so many to choose from and they were all gluten free. We really wish there was one of these closer to home. I did see on their website that they ship all across the country, so maybe for a special occasion, we can have them delivered.
We had an amazing Spring Break trip to New York City a few weeks ago - and it was our very first trip since our girlie was diagnosed with Celiac Disease! We were unsure of how it would go but with LOTS of research and recommendations, we were able to enjoy ourselves and make sure our girlie was safe and gluten free.
Once we had received our daughter’s celiac diagnosis, one of our biggest concerns was finding ways for her to still feel included with her friends. We knew parties, sleepovers, school events and anything with gluten-focused treats would be hard for her. All of the birthday cakes, cookies or cupcakes at school parties (and other events) were going to make her feel left out, and we wanted to do whatever we could to prevent that.
Welcome to our Gluten Free blog! We’re so excited to document this journey - not only to share with others going through this same experience, but for ourselves. It’s a live diary for us to remember what our girl likes, loves and just plain thinks is gross. (she’s 10!)
